Hints: I will add hints as I have time. Please
feel free to e-mail us any helpful hints you have to share.
Also you can e-mail us questions if you are having a problem.
We will sure try to help out.
- Maintain the sharp carving edge on your carving knife
by honing it 20 strokes on each side for every 30 minutes
of carving. Keep the edge flat on the leather strop and
always keep the sharp edge turned away from you while stropping.
- Always wear a Kevlar or stainless steel carving glove
when using knives and gouges.
- Never use sand paper on your carving until you are totally
finished carving. The sand particles will embed in your
carving and dull your knives and gouges upon use again.
- Wash your carving with mild dish soap when completed.
This will help remove all the oil and dirt from the carving
absorbed from your hands.
- I lightly spray all my carvings with Krylon acrylic spray
to seal them, before painting. I seal them after painting
with a matt spray. You do not want a bright sheen to you
carving as this would not look natural.
- When carving any realistic figure, bird or animal, always
gather plenty of reference material from the library, magazines,
internet, etc.
